Qualifications of Theatres, Personnel & Shows

Note: Any element of a show which has received an award is ineligible to receive an award for that production,

that is, in a later continuation of that production, revival or showcase.

1.    What are the current Qualifications of theatres to be judged?

The producing theater company must be located in Bexar County, Texas, to be considered a local production. 

2. 2.   What are the current Qualifications of personnel to be judged?
   

Actors, designers and directors must be residents of San Antonio Metro area to be considered.

3. 3.   What are the Qualifications of shows to be judged?
   

ATAC will judge any local full length production of a drama, comedy or musical with an opening date between August 1 and July 31.  Shows must run for at least two weekends. Exceptions have been made for shows with at least 5 performances in one week. The intent is to insure that a sufficient number of judges see a show.

We do not judge theater with casts primarily of children, teenagers or high school productions or those with adult casts but produced for presenting to children.

College and University Theatre departments are a vital part of the San Antonio Theatre community and their productions are judged. They support our community-based theatres with audience, technical aspects and educational opportunities in almost every aspect of our art. ATAC stated purpose is to: recognize and celebrate the work of San Antonio theatre artists; to generate visibility and excitement for locally produced theater; to stimulate and encourage the pursuit of excellence in artistic and production standards; and to educate audiences in discovering the riches of the thespian arts.  We believe the college and university theatre programs fill all of these purposes.

One act plays over 30 minutes in length will be judged.
